If you are new to CBD it can be a little daunting to know where to start. One of the most common questions is “how should I take CBD?”

There are five basic ways to get your daily dose of CBD:

  1. Topicals
  2. Edibles
  3. Capsules
  4. Tinctures
  5. Vapes

Each way has some advantages, so we’ve created this little guide to help you choose what is best for you.

Topicals:
Topical products include balms, salves, gels and muscle rubs. They are all designed to be rubbed into the skin, never to be swallowed. They are simple and easy to use and can be good for targeting a specific skin issue or area of discomfort.

Often topicals contain other products like menthol or Arnica and in some cases can contain Vitamin E and other supplements.

Edibles:
Definitely the tastiest way to get your daily dose, the edibles market is growing rapidly and includes all sorts of sweets and chocolates, with gummies being the most popular. The advantages of taking your CBD in this form are that the dose is accurately measured in each sweet and that they taste great. However, absorption of CBD is slower when ingested in this way.

Capsules:
A wide range of capsules are available from different manufacturers in a variety of different strengths. Capsules (usually a soft gel or a pill) are really easy to swallow and provide accurate dosages. It is also easy to carry the capsules around with you, so you can take your dose during the day without risking carrying an oil bottle with you.

CBD is absorbed quite slowly when taken in capsule form, so not the best way if you are after rapid relief.

Tinctures/Oils:
Probably the most common method of taking CBD is by holding a few drops of an oil or tincture under your tongue for around 60-90 seconds before swallowing. This is known as sub-lingual administration. This method ensures fast absorption and is an efficient way of getting the CBD into your system. Perfect if you need a little help with getting to sleep at night.

CBD oils are usually supplied with either a dropper or a spray applicator to make it easy for you to measure out your daily dose.

Flavourings are added by some brands – orange, lemon & peppermint are common, since not everyone likes the taste of CBD.

Vapes:
The fastest way to get CBD into your system is via a vape. There are a variety of disposable and re-usable vapes on the market, which we’ll discuss more at another time - there are quite a lot of options!

When take via a vape the CBD goes directly into your bloodstream in just a few minutes, making this a great product if you are looking for instant relief.

There are lots of flavours available to choose from and the vape pens are easy to carry with you so you can get your CBD dose whenever you need it.

So the best way to take CBD will vary for different people, but we want to help you find what works best for you. Please drop us a line if you have any questions or just need some advice about what might work for you.
